The European Trade Union Institute (ETUI)'s list of hazardous medicinal products (HMPs)

We are in week 3 our Holiday shopping resource collection. We hope you are finding them useful. We also hope that you notice a lack of safer alternatives and consider endorsing the Louisville Charter for Safer Chemicals.

This week’s resource was sent to us by a scientific researcher and advocate from our email list. I will quote their description below. It may be useful as we head towards the New Year’s quest for better health and as we visit with family members who may need these drugs to survive. Please remember to consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes that might impact your health. This article is provided for informational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose or treat any conditions.

The list of hazardous medicinal products is important because the FDA is horrible about identifying and disclosing reproductive and developmental toxins (a major focus of the list linked below).  And they aren’t much better on determining carcinogenicity.  So it’s important that both providers and those receiving the medications are appropriately informed. and am going to share it with some of my medical colleagues and some people working on pharma problems.

Note that a large percentage of the drugs listed are antineoplastics.  They have long been recognized as highly hazardous and I wouldn’t expect that they are a high priority for our outreach on this due to their targeted and essential use in cancer patients.  However there are also many antivirals, antibacterials and other drugs that are commonly used.  In particular, there has been an increase in autoimmune diseases, including among younger adults, and there are a number of drugs listed that are therapeutic for those diseases (immunosuppressive). This i information also relates to prescription contamination of water supplies.
